Privacy policy

Effective October 3, 2026

Hearth is a private household assistant operated by one family for its own members. It is not offered to the public. This policy describes what Hearth does with information from a Google account that a household member chooses to connect.

Who can use it

Only members of the household that operates Hearth. Each person connects only their own Google account, and can disconnect it at any time.

What Hearth accesses

With the account holder's permission, Hearth requests read-only access to Gmail (the gmail.readonly scope). It reads the sender, subject, date and short preview of recent messages. It does not read attachments, and it cannot send, delete, label or change any message.

How the information is used

The information is used for one purpose: to prepare a short daily summary for the account holder of mail that may need their attention. The summary is delivered only to that account holder.

To write the summary, message headers and previews are processed by AI model providers acting on Hearth's behalf (Google and Anthropic) under terms that do not permit them to use the content for training. Nothing else is shared with any third party.

Hearth's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Storage and retention

Hearth stores the access credential needed to read the mailbox on a private server, readable only by the Hearth service. Message content is not kept: it is read when the summary is prepared and then discarded. The summary itself is kept in the account holder's own conversation history.

Removing access

The account holder can revoke Hearth's access at any time at myaccount.google.com/permissions. On request, the stored credential and any related data are deleted.
